Thank you Senator Portman for years of #ecoRight leadership
about 3 years ago
Our friend, Ohio Sen. Rob Portman, has steadfastly pushed the Senate to advance energy efficiency language for the last five years. Under his steady leadership and his partnership with New Hampshire Sen. Jeanne Shaheen, his bipartisan bill passed earlier this month. The Senate passage of the Energy Savings and Industrial Competitiveness Act could have the carbon equivalent of taking 20 million cars off the road.
RepublicEN is grateful for this ENvisionary, ecoRight champion having the courage to reach across the aisle to pursue meaningful policy that will help create jobs, save energy, and protect the environment.
"It's a win-win-win," Portman said after the broadly supported measure passed 85-12. "This is a victory for consumers, for our economy, and for the environment."
The Portman-Shaheen efficiency bill is just one example of Sen. Portman's ecoRight leadership. He is one of the growing number of elected conservatives with the courage to acknowledge climate change is real. He promotes the carbon free benefits of nuclear power and understands the role hydraulic fracturing ("fracking") plays in ensuring a steady supply of domestic natural gas. And when he served in the U.S. House of Representative, Portman was a huge proponent in "debt for nature" swaps that are helping restore the "lungs" of the planet. In exchange for the U.S. forgiving a portion of the nation's debt, that country agrees to set aside and protect tropical forests and other special lands, as well as create a tropical forest protection fund. Those forests purify the air we breathe.
Those of us in the ecoRight are grateful and fortunate to have Sen. Portman as a friend. Thank you for your leadership, Sen. Portman.
